Of Maple Grove's 28,660 housing units, only about 2,180 predate 1970, and the median home was built in 1991 — so most of the city is on the PVC side of that line.

The 2026 Sanitary Sewer CIPP Project No. 26-10 covers 4,800 feet of 8-inch trenchless lining and 360 feet of manhole rehabilitation in the Sheffield Lane / Sunnyslope Drive area — work the city describes as extending service life and minimizing inflow and infiltration impacts. The project was established under Resolution 25-147; the City Council accepted the bid and awarded the contract to Vortex Services MN, LLC at its February 17, 2026 meeting. Also awarded that night: the 2026 Sanitary Sewer Forcemain Replacement Project No. 26-13, contract to Geislinger & Sons, and the Hickory Ridge Area Street Reconstruction Project No. 26-03, estimated at $2,995,000, covering water main, storm sewer, road surface, and curb and gutter replacement.
What this means for your drains
CIPP — cured-in-place pipe — is trenchless rehab: a resin liner is pulled through the existing sewer and cured in place, restoring the pipe without digging up the street. The city is rebuilding its mains from the inside; your lateral is still yours under Sec. 34-108(k), it's the same age and material as the main being lined, and a cracked one undercuts the work the city just paid for.

Does Maple Grove's loan program cover sewer lateral repair?
Not if you're on city sewer. The Article IV loan program (Ch. 34, Article IV) is written for individual sewage treatment systems — septic — and for wells. It does not cover a municipal sanitary sewer lateral. Parts of northwest Maple Grove are still on private septic and lift stations rather than gravity city sewer, and for those homeowners the program is real and worth pursuing. For most of Maple Grove, it's a dead end. There is a separate Metropolitan Council Private Property I&I Grant that Maple Grove is eligible for as a designated excessive-I/I community, but the city has to apply for and administer it, and Maple Grove has never run one.
The city is lining the sewer in my street. Does that fix my line?
No. The 2026 Sanitary Sewer CIPP Project No. 26-10 covers 4,800 feet of 8-inch trenchless lining and 360 feet of manhole rehabilitation in the Sheffield Lane / Sunnyslope Drive area — that's the city's main, not your lateral. Here's why it matters anyway: if the city is lining clay main in your street, the lateral in your yard is likely the same age and the same material. The city rehabbing its pipe doesn't change the condition of yours, and a cracked lateral keeps letting groundwater into a system the city just spent money sealing.
