Mississippi Street (CSAH 6) full reconstruction — closed through mid-August
What's happening in Fridley right now
The biggest road project in Fridley this year is the Mississippi Street (County Highway 6) reconstruction between East River Road (County Highway 1) and University Avenue (Trunk Highway 47). Anoka County entered into a contract with the City of Fridley for the corridor rebuild, and construction began this spring. The corridor is closed to through traffic through approximately mid-August, with a posted detour in place. Recent work included installation of two layers of asphalt pavement, and this month crews are placing concrete sidewalk and drainage swale along the south side. This is a full corridor rebuild — subbase, storm drainage, curbs, sidewalks, and pavement.
What this means for your drains
Full corridor reconstruction is the single biggest predictor of drain and sewer problems for homes and businesses on and near the road. When Mississippi Street is rebuilt down to the subbase, everything under the pavement gets touched, and here's what we typically see in the months after:
- Sanitary lateral damage — the pipe running from your building to the city main can settle, shift, or crack when the road above it is rebuilt. If your business or home is on the Mississippi Street corridor between East River Road and University, this is a real risk
- Storm/sanitary confusion in older sections — Fridley has neighborhoods old enough to have combined systems in places, and any reworked drainage pushes water in new directions
- Root growth into cracks — trees along the corridor react to construction stress by growing aggressively; older clay laterals show the damage 3-12 months later
For any home or business on or near the Mississippi Street corridor, a camera inspection this fall is smart insurance. We provide the video on a stick you keep. If your line has a defect from the road work, that footage is what your case looks like.
Call 612-382-7397 or book a camera inspection.
