Chisago County septic & sewer

$15,000–$20,000 through the Chisago County Septic System Replacement Grant — and the diagnostics that come first

Most homes in Wyoming run on subsurface sewage treatment systems (SSTS) rather than municipal sewer. Chisago County runs one of the strongest county-level septic replacement programs in Minnesota, funded through the state's Clean Water Fund via MPCA.

Chisago County covers $15,000–$20,000 in septic replacement grants for SSTS systems, funded by MPCA and administered by Chisago County.

Who handles what in Wyoming

Sewer service in Wyoming is handled by city-owned. Here is who to call for what, plus the current ordinances that affect Wyoming homeowners.

Wyoming Public Works Department

Homeowner vs. city responsibility

City owns main; property owner responsible for service connection/lateral and water service line to the building.

If you have a backup and are not sure whether it is on your side or the city's, we can put a camera down and confirm before anyone digs.

Point-of-sale inspection

No POS inspection for municipal sewer; septic (SSTS) point-of-sale disclosure required under MN state law. City publishes Septic Conformance Inspector List and Septic Maintainer/Pumper List (no general sewer contractor list).

Selling or buying? Get the required inspection scoped and documented before closing.

📍 Local construction update

Highway 243 corridor & summer building growth around Wyoming

What's happening in Wyoming right now

Chisago County is entering a heavy construction stretch. MnDOT has awarded a $28.6M Highway 243 project (west of the St. Croix River to Cascade Street) that starts fall 2026 and runs through fall 2028 — the corridor Wyoming residents use to reach the St. Croix. Locally, new construction continues in subdivisions like Summer Field 2nd Addition off Kettle River Blvd, and the LP Building Solutions manufacturing facility in North Branch (10 minutes north) is bringing 125 new jobs and heavy truck traffic to the I-35 corridor.

What this means for your drains

New housing on the north side of Wyoming — Kettle River Blvd, Summer Field — is being built on freshly graded lots. Two things happen in the first 3–5 years after a new build:

  • Settlement around the sewer lateral creates sags where water pools and grease/paper collects — the recipe for a slow drain that gets worse every month
  • Construction debris (concrete washout, drywall dust, sand) that made it into the line during the build shows up as backups months later

If you're in a home built in the last 5 years and haven't had the sewer scoped since move-in, now is the time. If you're on well-and-septic, we service floor drains, kitchen lines, and drain tile in the same visit. And with Highway 243 work coming through the corridor, expect increased vibration on nearby side streets — old clay lines don't handle that well.
