CSAH 19 (Stacy Trail) reconstruction & new roundabout underway

What's happening in Chisago City right now

Chisago County is in the middle of a major CSAH 19 (Stacy Trail) reconstruction from CR 34 (Lofton Ave) to CR 14 (Lincoln Rd) — running right through Chisago City, Chisago Lake Township, and into Lindström. The project includes a new single-lane roundabout at Lofton Ave, turn lanes at side streets, storm water management, a 10-ft shared-use trail, and a full rebuild of the road down to the sand subbase. Dresel Contracting is the awarded contractor. CR 19 is closed to through traffic with Highway 8 as the detour, and the corridor is expected to reopen in October. As part of this work, the county is removing and reinstalling Chisago City's watermain around the new roundabout, and the city is extending water and sewer to a nearby 5-acre parcel.

What this means for your drains

When the county rebuilds a road down to subbase and replaces watermain around a roundabout, everything under the pavement gets disturbed — including the sanitary sewer main and the service laterals that run from your house to it. The pipe from the property line to your home is your responsibility, and in older Chisago City neighborhoods that lateral is usually clay tile. Here's what we typically see in the 6-12 months after a project like this:

  • Roots and offset joints show up in cameras — vibration and pressure changes shake loose everything the old clay was holding back
  • Backups after the first heavy rain as reworked storm drainage sends water through pipe that hasn't seen that volume in years
  • Slow drains that were fine before construction — a settlement of even half an inch under your lateral creates a belly that grease and paper collect in

If you live along CR 19, Lofton Ave, or anywhere the county is doing utility work, a camera inspection now gives you a baseline before winter. If something changes after the freeze/thaw cycle, you have proof.

Call 612-382-7397 or book a camera inspection.
